SEN Classroom Assistant Course

This programme has been designed for learners who wish to develop an understanding of autism and how to support individuals with autism in a school or college environment. The Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools and Colleges has been combined to give learners the underpinning knowledge needed to work with and support children and young people in an educational setting. It can apply to the many varied roles that full and part time support staff may fulfil, including administrative roles, site support roles, technical roles, and volunteers, as well as roles that work directly with children and young people in the learning environment.

Our resources will help you gain a better understanding of the variety of roles you could be playing in a school or college, from administration to site support. Over the duration of this course, learners will improve their knowledge of how to effectively communicate with and develop professional relationships with children, young people, and adults, with an entire unit focused on positive communication methods for individuals with autism. Learners will also gain insight into health and safety legislation, the importance of safeguarding and child welfare, and equality, diversity, and inclusion in work with children and young people.

As an SEN (Special Educational Needs) focused course, learners will develop an understanding of autism and the principles of supporting individuals with autism – covering the person-centred approach, how to support positive behaviour, and how individuals with autism can be supported to live healthy and fulfilled lives.

Safeguarding is vitally important in any role where you’ll be routinely working with children, young people, or vulnerable adults. Having your Safeguarding and Prevent qualification is going to ensure that you know what to do when you’re faced with someone in need.

Safeguarding in the Workplace

Since you’ll now be able to spot the signs of neglect, abuse, and radicalisation you can apply your knowledge in any role where you’re working with the aforementioned groups, it won’t just be an attractive part of your CV for prospective employers.

You’ll be able to employ what you’ve learned the most in an educational setting, regardless of the age range you’re going to be working with. Safeguarding and Prevent knowledge is seen as extremely important in the education sector, and will help you to get the position you want since you’ll be going into the application process able to show off your knowledge either on your CV or during your interview(s).

If you’re already working in an environment where safeguarding knowledge is important, such as a school or healthcare setting, the knowledge you gain in our Level 2 Safeguarding course will help you to do your job by making it easier for you to spot safeguarding issues and how you should deal with them.

Having this knowledge is going to be especially useful if your colleagues are lacking in training, meaning you can stand out and help to deal with the issues you or your team weren’t qualified for beforehand. You won’t just be improving yourself but helping to improve your organisation as a whole.

Supporting Qualifications
